Our introduction to marine data management training courses are tailored to meet the specific needs of the coastal, marine and maritime sectors. They are ideal for those working in ports, offshore and coastal engineering and construction, where data management and a marine information infrastructure are key to safe and efficient operations.
The aim of the training is to assist you to develop your understanding in order to achieve up-to-date and cost effective ‘best practice’ in marine data management. This will equip you to better meet the challenges that you might face in the way your data is created, managed and published, whether using proprietary or open source software as an enabler.

Introduction to Data Management (Marine)
Our 1-day course is aimed at those who work with marine data from its capture, processing, ingestion, re-use and curation and those seeking to discover, view, download and transform data.
The course will demonstrate how effective data management can improve your organisation’s efficiency in data acquisition, storage and analysis. It will ensure you understand data use with respect to corporate risk, re-use, audit and traceability whilst at the same time minimising costs. The course introduces Data Governance, the Data Lifecycle, Data Standards, Data Quality, Metadata and Publishing. When is it held?
We deliver our Introduction to Data Management Course twice a year (usually in Feb & September) in conjunction with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in London. To book onto the next course – please visit the IMarEST website.
We also run our Introduction to Data Management Course in-house over 1 or 2 days. From just £75 + vat per person*, this is a more tailored course built around the clients’ specific requirements. Ideal when you have a group of 3-12 individuals from the same company / group requiring training. These are held throughout the year at a date and time that best suits you.
What are the costs?
- Introduction to Data Management Course held at IMarEST office in London: £250 +VAT per person (members) / £350 +VAT per person (non-members)
- In house Introduction to Data Management Course for 1-12 people (held at clients venue): £900 + VAT per tutor, per day + travel expenses
