Port-Log, which is used by a wide range of customers all over the world, is a quick and easy management and publishing platform for environmental data. Built by marine experts, it is the ideal solution when you need to view, disseminate and analyse environmental data. Port-Log, is not just for Ports, it is deployed worldwide and is adaptable to almost any marine or coastal environmental monitoring challenge including ports (large or small), harbours, coastal terminals, offshore renewables, coastal observatories and inland waterways.
Port-Log is a cloud-based data platform (although it can also be installed in-house if required) which gives you the ability to store environmental monitoring data securely and publish it in near real-time or historically on the web – a vital need for many marine organisations and projects where safety and efficiency is paramount.
It is an off-the-shelf product, which removes the complex and costly task of acquiring and implementing the technologies needed to collate, process and share multiple data sets.
Port-Log is totally instrument and transmission independent and hence can be deployed to suit almost any application and environment. It is commonly used to display tides, wind, waves and other meteorological and oceanographic data types, but vessel location (AIS), dynamic positioning and motion data can also be included. It is adaptable to customer requirements – use for just one sensor in one location OR or a wide range of sensors and conditions in multiple locations. Build it up as you go or as your requirements change. See our Environmental Conditions pages for more details.
Data can be displayed in numerous ways, including background mapping to assist spatial awareness and enable analysis.
Triggers and alerts come as standard so users are always fully informed.
It can be provided as pure cloud-based subscription service, or as an inhouse installed system.
As Port-Log decodes its data and stores it securely it is ideal as part of an integrated data management system or enterprise Spatial Database Infrastructure (eSDI).
Port-Log.net is a cloud-based subscription service, making it even easier to implement. Provided on secure servers, hosted and maintained by an OceanWise professional IT partner. Bandwidth and storage expands as required to ensure speed of response is maintained. Port-Log can be accessed by one of the following browsers: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Firefox (Port-Log is not currently accessible via Internet Explorer).
Want an installed version? No problem. Port-Log can also be installed at your premises, where there is a preference for your data and web services to be managed and maintained in-house.
There are various extensions available which you can add to the basic platform including

Send data to sea engaged vessels (pilots, survey boats, dredgers etc)
Stream delivers data from source directly to an external device reliably, and in real-time. It was developed in collaboration with our customer Associated British Ports (ABP) to address the requirement to deliver bi-directional, reliable, accessible tide data to vessels at sea engaged with survey, dredging and similar operations.
Stream, coupled with a Portable Tide Gauge, uses wireless telemetry to provide a cost-effective solution which bypasses the increasingly unreliable, frequency saturated UHF transmission methods.
We connect a tide (or other) sensor to an ip.buffer running special scripts. The system is shipped in a Peli-Case for ease of installation and can be powered either by solar panels or using a mains charger.
Share data to third parties such as a weather forecaster.
Relay broadens the use of Port-Log by allowing the user to automatically share data with a third party, using recognised standards. For example, transmitting real-time wave or tidal data from a tide gauge to a weather forecast provider.
The data can be fully integrated into the required system and can also group together several sites and/or sensors, and then send the data as a single packet.
An Application Programming Interface (API) allows programs to communicate with each other by metaphorically ‘opening the door’ on one application and allowing another to interact with it. Our API makes Port-Log easily integrated into existing systems.
API allows customers to gain control over how Port-Log (or rather their environmental data stored within Port-Log) is used in their organisation, maximising the benefits of the data and providing a way for customers to integrate data into their own processes and workflows and support their specific business needs.
The API provides data in response to HTTP requests and in doing so can be accessed with virtually any programming language, thus making it easily integrated into existing systems.
