OceanWise, the UK’s leading independent marine data management, publishing and GIS specialists, hosted its annual Marine GIS Workshop in London on Tuesday 17th November. This year’s event considered ‘why data is important and why good data management is critical to the health of projects, programmes and your company bottom line’. For the second consecutive year the event was fully booked (weeks in advance this time around!). The huge interest highlights a positive change in attitude for many organisations who are starting to understand and realise the potential of GIS in the marine sector.
Throughout the day attendees were treated to stimulating and thought provoking keynotes, customer case studies and presentations from both private and public sector organisations. Initial feedback from presenters and attendees has been positive, with the keynotes highlighting the importance of Data Management to every business (from DAMA UK) and the importance of Coordinate Reference Systems and the things that can go wrong if they are not managed well, being particularly popular. Acknowledging the growing popularity of the event, plans are being considered to run a parallel event in Scotland and move to a bigger venue for our London event in 2016.
For the first time, all presentation slides have been made available on the OceanWise website. If you couldn’t make it on the day or simply would like to revisit something you can do so by clicking here
