OceanWise rigs up to deliver real-time Vessel Tracking Data to Port-Log
We are currently rigging up to process real-time Automatic Identification System (AIS) vessel tracking data as part of a commitment to extend the functionality of our Environmental Data Sharing and Publishing platform, Port-Log. The data will be used to further enhance the situational awareness provided by the Port-Log interactive map.
As part of a pilot project, we are collecting data from the Solent, one of the busiest commercial and recreational waterways in Europe. We have successfully developed and installed a low cost AIS receiver that collects AIS radio traffic and decodes the data in real-time, streaming valid AIS messages over the Internet, enabling users to analyse historic data. The data is also provided to crowd-sourced AIS initiatives, such as ‘Marine Traffic’ and ‘AIS Hub’. This gives us access to data over a much wider geographic area which will improve situational awareness for our Port-Log global user base.
