Cyclone Amphan made landfall in eastern India and Bangladesh on 20 May 2020, killing at least 15 people as it lashed coastal areas with ferocious wind and rain. The Angtihara Monitoring Station installed by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) continued to monitor levels throughout as the centre of the storm passed overhead. Angtihara is just one of 53 BIWTA stations that is using OceanWise’s data collection system, Port-Log. The sensors, data telemetry and Port-Log system worked seamlessly throughout, a testament to all those involved. The rise in tide level in the estuary as the storm hit can clearly be seen on the Port-Log image below.
