Huge Congratulations to Will Girard our Operations Assistant who recently completed the NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management with a Distinction. Read more about his success here.

We have two more new team members! Despite the pandemic the OceanWise team has continued to expand and we are pleased to welcome two new recruits. Firstly Shane Djokey joins us as an Information Systems Apprentice. Shane will be working closely with Steve on the development and maintenance of front facing websites and external projects as well as supporting and developing in-house tools. Secondly, we welcome Andrew Bell who will be working with our operations team. Andrew, who has 16 years’ experience working in the geospatial industry, has strong expertise in GIS and spatial databases and joins us as an Information Systems Manager.

We are Cyber Essential Certified

At OceanWise, we take our responsibility for our customers’ data very seriously and part of this is to ensure our and their data is protected by the highest standards of information security possible. Cyber Essentials is a UK Government initiative that helps organisations assess and address risk in four key areas: Access Control; Secure Configuration; Malware Protection and Patch Management. Working with an external consultant, OceanWise passed the assessment in all areas for its onsite and offsite Windows and Linux based servers and personal devices and is now Cyber Essentials certified.

Other News

  • News just in is that we have won a contract for a network of Tide Stations in New Zealand. The stations, one of which will also measure weather conditions, will transmit data over AIS and be used as input to hydrodynamic modelling and by vessels in the area for navigation. More next time.
  • Oceanology International looks a little different this year. Despite the face-to-face event being cancelled, OceanWise is attending OI-Connect on the 1st-4th of December. Come and Connect with us.
  • In a collaborative one year trial study we are streaming real-time data from Port-Log 'Connect' to support maritime services and e-navigation. The trial will utilise the S-104 Water Level Information for Surface Navigation specification. We look forward to sharing the results of the trial and the feedback from users as soon as we can.
  • MEDIN and OceanWise have merged their 1-day data management courses and will be launching the combined course on the OceanTeacher Global Academy early next year after a month trial for selected students. The course will be available online and face-to-face and support tutor led and self-study formats. Ask us for details. OceanWise continues to be the only commercial sponsor of MEDIN, a worthy cause we are proud to support. MEDIN is always looking for new sponsors so if you are interested, please contact us and we will put you in touch.
  • Download our new case study on the extensive upgrade of the environmental monitoring system at the Port of Dover.
